Local artist/educator and Edmund Fitzgerald enthusiast, Tom Asklar, hosts a 50th anniversary tribute of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald—an American Great Lakes freighter that sank in a storm on November 10, 1975, with the loss of the crew of 29. On Lake Superior... the big lake they call "Gitchegumee."
The 50th Anniversary event is a multi-sensory and multi-media presentation. Mr. Asklar will discuss the ship's history, a timeline of the tragedy, and theories of its demise. The tolling of the bell will honor each soul of the 29 crew members lost to Lake Superior. Art and artifacts will be displayed. Jim Tankine will provide a bagpipe tribute.
A musical tribute will follow featuring Bruce Wojick, Dave Thurman, Jamie Holka, and Jeremy Hoyle performing songs with a Nautical theme and songs from the "Mighty Fitz" era. The centerpiece will be Gordon Lightfoot's masterpiece the "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald".
This event will begin at 7:10pm. The time of the Fitz' final communication.
